A question sometimes asked is: why does my Brother seem to use colour ink cartridges when I only print black?
Brother inkjet printers have an ink purge system which pumps a very small amount of ink through the print heads from time to time. This helps to prevent the print heads from drying and blocking.
Some people ask “should I just turn my printer off to save ink”?
The answer is no. If you turn the printer off for long periods you risk the print heads clogging/blocking. Access to the print heads requires stripping down the printer, and the cost of a technician to do this would effectively write the printer off.
It should be noted that with the affordability of our compatible Brother inks, having the printer purge ink to keep the print heads working properly is not such a problem.
