We’ve found a couple of easy fixes for when the HP1606DN fails to recognise the cartridge:
1. Make sure the paper path is clear – a partially fed sheet of paper can cause this error.
2. Wipe the chip on the cartridge and make sure the cartridge is properly seated, with the chip making good contact with the printer.
This would probably work for similar printers as well. The HP M1536dnf printer uses the same toner cartridges.
