If you replace a toner in your Brother MFC9970CDW and the counter doesn’t correctly reset, you can use the following instructions to reset the counter.
- Turn the printer off and open the front cover.
- Then turn the printer on.
- The printer will display “Cover is open” or “Close cover”, then press the “1” key to display the Reset menu.
- Locate the correct toner option to reset and select it.
- If performed correctly the printer will display “Accepted“.
Note: for selecting the correct toner you should understand the cartridge code system Brother uses:
- Black is K, Magenta is M, Cyan is C and Yellow is Y
- TNR = toner
- STR = starter cartridge (the toner cartridges that came with your printer)
- STD = standard toner or TN340
- HY or HC= high yield/high capacity toner or TN348
So to reset the TN340M magenta toner counter you would select M.TNR.STD (Magenta~Toner~Standard).
These instructions have been tested on the MFC9970CDW but may also work on the MFC9460CDN.
This is the only instruciton that worked to reset my cartridge. Thank you very much.
This was great! Clear instructions, easy to follow and you’ve saved me a bundle of money. Thanks very much.
This worked for me, but I also had to pull out the tray with the cartridges to get the “Cover Is Open” screen.
Worked beautifully! Clear, easy directions!
OMG – after 1.5 hours googling, changing cartridges, drum units and weeping silently – this WORKED
Extremely useful – thanks so much – I had Googled/tried everything and it hadn’t worked until this!!
Thank you, after hours of trying to fix this problem your directions were clear and worked!
Lifesaver 🙂
I really appreciate your help. This tip works perfectly. God bless you.
Awesome. Worked like a charm!
Thank you so much!!!! You saved the day!
Who is AWESOME?! YOU ARE! Thank you! Worked like a charm! So easy! Why the heck don’t they make it more intuitive to find this cartridge reset menu?! (Hint to other unfortunate, now fortunate souls … the “1” to pull up this toner cartridge reset menu is the “1” key on the copier/printer number pad (on the right), NOT the one that controls stored fax numbers (on the left). )
worked … just hit the 1 while message appears to ‘close the door’ and menu to update cartridge offers selection. TY
