When a new TN1070 toner is installed in a DCP1610W rand DCP1510 printer, a reset gear should turn and trigger a switch to reset the toner counter.
Sometimes the toner counter doesn’t get reset and realigning the reset gear is a little bit too techy for most users. Here’s how to reset the toner cartridge on the printer controls:
- Press the Menu-button
- Use the arrows to browse to “Machine Info”, press the OK-button
- Use the Arrow-buttons to browse to:
Machine Info
Reset Drum - Press and hold the OK-button until the display shows:
Reset Drum
^Reset v Exit
- Press in succession the Start-button, Up-button, Down-button, OK-button
- The display should say “Accepted”. If step 5 failed, you may have been too slow
- Press the Stop-button to exit the menu
If you get the message “Printer is busy”, then switch the printer off and on

Hi, can I reset my starter cartilage according to these instructions after refilling with new toner powder. I do not have reset gear in my starter cartilage. So basically after refilling the powder , I want to rest tonnerer by this method. Can I do that without reset gear??
You can reset the counter without the gear using this method.
you have to press and hold the keys for quite a while, got it to work after a few attempt 🙂
tq, very usefull just follow exact instruction
Thanks a lots. It works perfectly
The toner reset does not work for me on 1610W. I am only able to reset a drum counter. The toner prompt cannot be removed.
Thank you. It did the job
This didn’t work for me. I have a dcp 1610w. I tried many times without success.
The instructions work till I get to accept, I press stop but display reverts to replace toner, again!!!
I have abandoned the printer for over 8 months before I came across this solution.
Infact, it started working immediately.
Thanks so much
Took a couple of attempts but got there in the end, thank you!
The only change I had to make was in step 7. I could not get it to go to 10. It stayed at 0, but the other steps worked and I could still reset my toner. This was the first time I shook this toner after it said to replace the toner. The next copy was normal–not light as if the toner was going out. Thank you for your help!
